It’s been a very busy start to the semester for all of us. Reading week is a chance to get ahead on the rest of the school year and decompress from the past seven weeks. Some take the chance to get away for the week, escape the winter but for those of us who can’t there are many productive and relaxing ways to spend the week off.

Hangout with friends

As students we’re often busy, between school, work and extracurriculars finding time for a social life can be a challenge. Getting together with some friends is a perfect way to spend the week off. Grabbing lunch, going to a movie, maybe spending a night out together are all great ways to spend time with one another.

Read ahead

Although we all want to get away from school over reading week, sometimes doing the exact opposite is what’s best. Getting some of your readings or assignments done ahead of time is a great way to spend your time. When reading week is over your stress will be greatly reduced as you’re already prepared for the next seven weeks.

Coffee Interviews

A great way to get ahead in the industry is to talk to people currently in the workforce. It’s an opportunity to learn about what they do and find out about their company. Try to set up one or two during reading week as a productive way to spend your time off.

Go workout

Working out has been proven to reduce stress and increase happiness. During classes it can be hard to find the time to make it to the gym for a nice workout. So taking the time when there are fewer responsibilities to get out to the gym and build the habit to continue once classes are back.

Catch up on sleep

We all get worn down during the semester. Early classes and allnighters to finish those assignments causes students to lose sleep and not catch up. Using the week off to get some extra sleep will set you up well for the rest of the semester and allows you to recharge.

If you’re spending your time around Toronto there’s always an array of things happening in the city. No matter how you spend your reading week make sure you rest and get ready for the final push before summer!
