On Friday, January 31, 2020 Humber PR students got the opportunity to chat with a panel of MLSE PR professionals and take in a Marlies game, which they won 6-2!

Included in the panel was Charzie Abendanio, manager of corporate communications and Humber PR grad, Kate Bascom, media relations coordinator of the Toronto Marlies and Stefano Toniutti, media manager at Raptors 905.

They shared with the group what their roles are within MLSE and how corporate compares to team PR.

Charzie works in corporate which allows her the opportunity to work in various parts of the organization. Outside of the teams, she also worked on the Live Events, food and beverage, retail and esports business units. Corporate PR within MLSE is about looking for the PR opportunities, challenges and priorities of the company as a whole and everything around the game.

Kate and Stefano both focus on team PR which revolves more around the players, front office and everything that is happening on the court. Since Kate and Stefano both work for minor league teams they cover a fairly large scope of the PR capabilities for the teams. The Maple Leafs and Raptors have larger PR teams which can provide more focused roles.

They could all agree that they love the work environment at MLSE and being a part of a team. Stay tuned for future opportunities to learn more about the industry.
