With the change of a year there is always a chance to reflect. Our last decade was a decade of change and adapting. Social media and influencers came out full swing and now we’re looking ahead at what this year will bring. There’s always a wide variety of ideas and predictions, we’re looking at three interesting topics relevant to PR students.

1. Storytelling

As PR professionals the ability to be storytellers is incredibly important. The ability to create a captivating story is invaluable in earning media coverage. The reality is that newsrooms are shrinking, which provides an opportunity for other writers to MAYBE get noticed. Be sure to practice your storytelling skills and pay attention to good storytellers!

2. Interactive Content

Everywhere we look we see filters, polls, games, you name it. Social media has figured out that we want to be able to interact and be involved in everything we do. Whether it’s answering questions instantly or discovering which Disney character we look like we’re constantly looking to interact. Expect to see more of this interactive content this year and maybe even some new versions of it!

3. Listicles

Believe it or not people are getting lazier. Readers don’t like to read past the headline and anything with a lot of content is a challenge. Listicles is writing that is presented as a list. We see a rise in this sort of writing from places like BuzzFeed with their “11 Bizarre Places in the US That You Need to Visit” articles. Learning to be an effective listicle writer will be an important tool to have this year!

Let us know if there are any trends that you’re excited for this year.
